Careers in Archaeology

Working in archaeology requires at least a bachelors degree specialising in Anthropology.  A masters degree is the more common qualification.

Two universities teach archaeology to post-graduate level:

Auckland University

Otago University

These courses have some practical content but to be more employable students need to seize any opportunity that arises for field work. Jobs are not common and are usually competed for by well qualified candidates.

To find out more about a career in archaeology the Kiwicareers site is recommended (search for archaeologist).

Becoming a student member of NZAA will open the way to knowing more about what is happening in the world of archaeology.
