Missing carved panels could be worth millions The Waitara pataka (storehouse) panels, sold and sent overseas nearly 30 years ago, could be worth millions, says the Taranaki Museum collections manager. "They would be well into six figures in terms of their valuation on the international market," Ron Lambert said. They were found near Waitara in 1972 by Maori carver Melville Manu, who sold them to a London art dealer for $US6000, ($NZ15,326) who sold them to Mr Ortiz for $US65,000.
