Greenstone adze found on Far North seabed
Divers have found a rare greenstone adze on the seabed of isolated Whangape Harbour in the Far North during an underwater site survey.
The 33cm-long adze was found in 5m of water.
Bay of Islands planning consultant Jeff Kemp, diving with marine engineer Andre Labonte 70m from the shore, saw a symmetrical, encrusted object on the harbour bottom. Investigation revealed an adze with a crust of marine growth.
