Pit and Pa Predictive model
Using NZAA data, a pilot GIS study has identified key environmental variables underlying the distribution of pa and pit sites at a broad geographical level. Highest probability is associated with environments in close proximity to water bodies and having warm temperature (14-15C), high solar radiation, mild winters and dry summers. Limestone and andesite are the parent materials with highest levels of occurrence. Source: Leathwick, J.R. 2000. Predictive Models of Archaeological Site Distributions in New Zealand.
